Do you ever feel uninspired or unhappy, when you are in your home?
Maybe you think it's the shabby, old furniture and the drab color on the walls. So, you consider
buying some paint, new art for the walls, and replacing the furniture.
The truth is, the new decor, probably could make you feel better for a short time, but eventually, the unhappiness or the lack of motivation will
return.
If improving the aesthetics around you, could eliminate the doldrums, then you would never feel down again, once the decor was changed. Intellectually, most of us know this is not true.
My guess is there are times when the decor in your home doesn’t bother you at all, and you are happy and enjoy yourself when you are there. The decor didn’t change, so what is different? Your thoughts changed. You stopped focusing on the thoughts that were causing the unhappy
feelings.
Obviously, our happiness does not depend on having the right paint color, art or furniture. That doesn’t
mean you should not paint your walls, or buy new furniture. But, do those things because you want to, not because you think it will make you happy.
This principle applies in all areas of life. Your unhappiness is the result of your thoughts.
Thoughts are like clouds in the sky. Clouds appear, and then evaporate. Uncomfortable feelings will dissipate from your mind in the same way, if you don’t hang on to the thoughts that brought on those feelings. You don’t have to do anything… just let the thoughts pass through. Another thought will be right along behind it. If you don’t like the feelings that come with that one, just wait… another thought will soon replace that one
too.
Letting go, to have peace of mind is easier than you think.
