Sometimes, people in leadership roles are micromanagers. I have worked for more than
one boss that didn't trust me to use my wisdom and creativity to perform my tasks. It made going to work uncomfortable and I developed a bad habit of keeping my head down to stay under the radar to "feel safe". Flying under the radar worked to keep me out of the limelight, but it also took a toll on my self-confidence and caused me to doubt my value in the workplace.
Over time, my confidence in
myself dwindled and I began to believe that I was not qualified to lead a team or be in a management position. I was filled with self-doubt and that doubt came through when I had interactions with managers and even some of my peers. Not a good way to present myself in the business world.
Fortunately, I have an excellent work ethic, take pride in my work, get along well with others and I
require very little supervision. A manager at one of the companies I worked for, saw my potential and he encouraged me apply to fill a management position that had just become available within the company. I interviewed for the position and got the job. I was chosen over two other internal candidates who would now report to me. That situation pushed me to regain my confidence and set boundaries when those two employees tried to undermine my position as their manager. It was a
time of growth for me and the two staff members who kept challenging me gave me a great gift. The gift of becoming more assertive.
I am forever grateful to that manager who saw my potential and then helped me to see that potential in myself as well. Over the years when I have worked in both large and small companies, I have helped others to see the value and potential in themselves.
It gave me great pleasure to watch someone move out of their comfort zone, to find the courage to shine, reach for their dreams and achieve their full potential. Some of the people I worked with went on to become managers themselves.
I chose to be a Executive Life Coach because I love helping individuals, business owners, executives, managers, sales people, and administrative support
people to see the truth about themselves. When they realize how capable they really are, we work together to solve problems and to make their dreams possible.
If like I used to do, you are flying under the radar because you think it is safer there, you are wasting your talents and gifts. I would love to have a conversation with you to talk about what might be possible for you. Click the
