Many of us lead a
"rinse and repeat" sort of life. Sometime in our past, we created a way of showing up in life that worked well for us...then, but not so much now.
Often it takes a catastrophe to wake us up to the fact that we have been on autopilot and as a result, we are not feeling satisfied or fulfilled in our lives.
One of the biggest obstacles to reinventing ourselves, is our own brain. The human brain is naturally resistant to change. Unless something significant happens to indicate that something is out of sorts, the brain sees no reason for us to change. This can prevent us from taking advantage of opportunities to improve the way we are living life. To create a life that makes
us feel alive and excited about living we have to first recognize that we might be sleep-walking through ours.
What does reinventing your life look
like?
It’s different for everyone, but basically, we choose one area of our work or personal life that we would like to upgrade or reimagine. This could be in the areas of
Finance/Money, Health/Fitness, Career/Business, Family/Friends, Living Space, Romance, or Personal/Spiritual Development.
The next step is to imagine what we would rather have in that area of
life. When we have decided what we want to focus on, we look for a small step we can take toward making that change a reality. We take that small step and then the next and the next until we are satisfied with the change we have made.
There was a time in my career when I realized I was very unhappy in my job. I was tired of working for a corporation that cared more about the bottom line than about being honest with the customers. I didn’t like giving estimated delivery dates that I knew were not accurate.
I dreamed of using my artistic talents as a photographer and doing something more creative with my time. The first step I took to reinvent my career was to begin photographing weddings on the weekends. Eventually I left the corporation to launch a portrait
studio. That was just one of the many times in my life that I reinvented myself.
Is it time for you to reinvent some area of your
life?
